About Harriet

Hanging suggestion: Salon style

My artwork is mostly inspired by my immediate world, surrounded by the hardy moorland of West Yorkshire. I am inspired by the vibrant, green fingered, non-conformist community and the beautiful and dramatic landscape. I love the crumbling mills and industrial architecture, romantically peppering the hills. I originally grew up in the South East of England near London, in a place that has an enormous castle at the top of the high street, where the big people live. But my ancestors have for many generations toiled on the moors and in the mills of West Yorkshire. Their stories weaving into the warp and weft of the land while clip clopping on the cobbled stones. My work is contemporary while inspired by folk/naive art and visual story telling with a painterly warmth and attention to detail.

I have studied printmaking and art in Brighton and Eastbourne and attained a BA(Hons) in Illustration at Cambridge School of Art.  I am a freelance illustrator, specialising in buildings. I create illustrations of houses (house portraits) for private customers as well as illustrated maps for commercial bodies, such as Dept of Tourism, Calderdale Council.

I have worked in Adult Learning Disabilities as an Artworker. As an Art Project Coordinator, I have been Trustee/Director of an Art Charity based in Hebden Bridge and organised many arts events and exhibitions. Occasionally I run workshops.
