Bespoke House Portraits

Where every home has a story worth painting.

A house is more than just a building, it’s where life unfolds, where memories are made, and where stories are held. My bespoke house portraits are painted in gouache on paper (and sometimes acrylic on canvas, depending on your needs). These illustrations are created to capture the character and spirit of a home.

They make meaningful gifts for weddings, anniversaries, Christmas, birthdays, or simply as a keepsake of a special place. Choose the size that feels right for you, and I’ll turn your home into a timeless work of art.

Each bespoke painting can be created in a range of sizes to suit your space and budget. There is no maximum size; however, larger paintings are priced higher due to the additional time required.

What Sets These Portraits Apart?

What sets my work apart is that each painterly piece is thoughtfully re-imagined, often incorporating subtle details that personalise the artwork while remaining true to the character and integrity of the house or dwelling. This approach results in an illustration rather than a direct copy of a photograph.

Although I work from photographs as reference, houses are usually painted from a slightly elevated viewpoint, allowing the full frontage, including the roof, to be included.

What is the process?

The process is enjoyable and collaborative, and begins with you choosing a budget and completing the enquiry form below.

To secure your commission, I usually take a 50% deposit, with the option to pay in full if you prefer. This cost includes consultation and any initial discussion or brainstorming needed to shape the painting.

Once booked, I’ll provide a lead time for your artwork. This is usually up to four weeks, depending on my current workload and the size of the painting. At busy times, a waiting list may apply and lead times can extend to a couple of months, so I recommend booking well in advance for special occasions.

Wherever possible, I prefer to visit the house in person, as this helps me understand its character and setting. If a visit isn’t practical, I simply ask for clear reference photographs taken from an unobstructed viewpoint.

Depending on the size, the painting will come on a mount, back and protected with cellophane.

  • “I can highly recommend Harriet for a commission. The process was very enjoyable. Harriet took the time to really understand the different aspects of the commission and happily looked at loads of photos and videos. We then decided together which aspects we wanted to focus on and I also got to see the work mid creation. We now have two pictures that will be treasured always”

  • “After seeing pictures that Harriet had done of places around our village we asked her if she would do a picture of our street. When we saw the picture we were lost for words, it was amazing. Harriet had created a piece of magic. We loved all the touches she added, especially our much loved cat and the neighbourhood squirrel. Thank you Harriet, your picture means so much more to us than just a painting.”

  • “I just wanted to let you know how delighted and overcome my Mum was with the painting you did of her house when she opened it on Christmas morning. Her eyes welled up when she saw it, which led to mine doing the same! She loves it so much and loves showing it to everyone too. You have created something special which will stay in our family for many years to come. Thank you so much, it’s brilliant and the perfect present!”
