Can you spot yourself?

Just wanted to share this lovely vid with you lot. This is by a film production company, The Art of Time-Lapse Productions, who are filming a documentary in Todmorden over a period of one and a half years in time lapse. This is the pop up fair at the beautiful Old Co-op building I was involved with a few weeks ago. If you know me, you can see I 'pop up' quite a lot, if you are from Tod, maybe you can recognise yourself or your friends, but you have to be quick, one blink and the film has moved on! Enjoy.

Arty Thoughts by guest vlogger, Chris Gill,

This week, my guest blogger (or should I say vlogger) is anarcho creative powerhouse, Chris Gill. Chris can be spotted, from time to time, in our little village in Cornholme, Todmorden, where he grew up and has a wealthy knowledge of the history of Tod and the people that live here. But mostly, he is globetrotting and has many fascinating stories and experiences to regale of his life around the world, working as an artist and journalist.

His story, as an artist who happens to be undergoing (but not to be out-done) the process of living with Multiple Sclerosis, is a fascinating one,  but I will leave him to tell you his story. Today he is reporting to us from Toronto, Canada, sticking to globetrotting tradition, of course. He has posted a vlog, plus a little teaser, which made me chuckle, so I will post them both. I have also posted links below where you can see many of his wonderful and prolific work. Many thanks for sharing your story Chris.

Thank you!!

Hello everyone! Hope you had a great Easter break? Had a great weekend myself at the Old Co-op Art & Craft pop up fair in Todmorden, which was very busy and buzzy throughout. Have to say the tea and cake was delicious (ooh yes, the vegan pecan & cherry brownie mmmmm). Thank you to all those who came and said hello and also to those who bought my work.

I will be selling art prints and original drawings. Please do come along and say hello. There will be some amazing art & crafters selling their work, so I am in great company and there will be something for everyone to enjoy.  The event starts on Saturday 31st March (my goodness, last day of March already!) to 1st April. ‘Five Leaves of Elder’

unnamed-4.jpg

This exhibition by me contains all new work produced during the Winter 2017, mainly paintings (large and small), plus clay sculptures and photography.

There are 5 themes linked around the ‘Five Leaves of Elder’.

‘The Tree of Life’ – life affirming paintings celebrating our relationship with trees

unnamed-1.jpg

‘Saint James’ – loosely inspired by the life of Saint James

‘Seven Songs’ – where I have used some favourite contemporary music as starting points for paintings

‘Withins’ – conceptual clay works celebrating the Brontes

unnamed-5.jpg

‘Kings’ – conceptual photographic works about identity, place and time

I attended Art College in the 1970s. I started working in my present style in 1990, exhibiting work from 1995 onwards. I now have more than 150 paintings in private collections.

I am a contemporary artist living in Todmorden. The main artworks I produce are water based figurative paintings. I also produce sculptures and photography. I have lived in Todmorden, West Yorkshire for the past 33 years where I have my studio.

Using watercolours, inks, gouache and pencil, I produce imaginative, theatrical narrative paintings, inspired by nature, music, stories and myths. I use a variety of symbols and animal images to represent characters and ideas in my paintings. My painting image size varies from A5 to A2 (occasionally A1). My sculptural works and photographs follow parallel themes to my paintings.

Many different artists influence my work – Outsider Art, the COBRA art group, David Jones, Ken Kiff, Alan Davie, Stanley Spencer, John Piper, Mary Fedden, Shani Rhys James, Dieter Roth, David Shrigley, Cornelia Parker.....

Nature, Music and Literature are three big influences. Birds such as Nightjars and insects such as Mayflies and earwigs frequently feature in my paintings. With a wide range of music influencing my ideas, anything from opera to the Manic Street Preachers and Iggy Pop can inspire new storylines in my work. In literature, novels especially those of George Orwell, Charles Dickens and Rose Tremain, give me new ideas for art. Inspirations for my recent works include entomology, tree life, Saints, the Brontes, Victorian industrial philanthropy and ancient cultures and their use of hieroglyphics.
